<SG1> Starting a Match.
a. Fit within an 11” wide x 20” long x 15” high (279mm x
508mm x 381mm) volume, as checked during
inspection.
b. Positioned within red box for red team or blue box
for blue team of the starting positions shown in
Figure. Robots may not begin the Match in contact
with any Field Elements other than the Floor inside
these starting positions and the Field Perimeter,
and may not be contacting any Scoring Objects
other than the Preload.
It is legal for a Robot to begin the Match:
Contacting the top of the Field Perimeter.
Extending over the top of the Field Perimeter.
Extending outside the Field.
Extending outside the starting position box into the rest of the Field (i.e. hovering
beyond the borders of the starting position box).
It is not legal for a Robot to begin the Match:
Contacting the Floor outside the starting position box.
Contacting the Goals, barriers, or any other Field Elements mounted on the
Floor/Field Perimeter.
Contacting any Scoring Objects other than its Preload.
For Teamwork Challenge, the only correct starting positions are those found in the official game manual. As stated in rule <SG1> clause B and shown in Figure, Team 1 (red) starts
along the wall shared with the blue Pyramid Goal (red box), and Team 2 (blue) starts along the wall shared with the red Pyramid Goal (blue box).
3267: Does a robot have to start touching the field perimter? : VEX Events
Robots are allowed, but not required, to begin the Match in contact
with the Field Perimeter, per <SG1>.
3269: Example of "Hovering Beyond the Borders of the
Starting Position Box" Under <SG1> : VEX Events
In the attached photos, all portions of the Robot contacting the
Floor are within the starting position area. However, portions of
the Robot extend beyond the boundaries of the starting position
box while remaining suspended above the Field and not
contacting the Floor, Field Elements, or Scoring Objects.
Assuming this is true, the photos would all show legal starting positions for a Robot to begin the Match, per <SG1>.
<SG2> Horizontal expansion is limited.
Once the Match begins, Robots may expand horizontally up to a length of 24”. The Robot can never be larger than 11” x 24” at any point during the Match (must fit within an 11” x 24” rectangular horizontal footprint)
<SG3> Vertical expansion is unlimited.
Once the Match begins, Robots may expand vertically beyond the 15” starting size limit with no limits.
<SG6> A Robot may Possess or Plow a maximum of one (1) Bean Bag at a time.
Robots in Violation of this rule must immediately stop all Robot actions except for ttempting to remove the excess Bean Bag(s).
Greater-than-momentary contact with a Bean Bag that results in more significant movement of the Bean Bag (e.g., pushing a Bean Bag across a distance of more than 1 tile length) would generally be considered Plowing
<SG7> Using the Load Zone.
Bean Bags may be Loaded one at a time through the Load Zone during the Match, and must meet all of the following criteria.
a. Red and blue Bean Bags may only be Loaded into the Load Zone that matches the color of that Bean Bag.
b. The Bean Bag must be placed in contact with the Floor and entirely within the Load Zone (i.e., no part of the Bean Bag extends beyond the defined boundaries of the Load Zone).
c. The Loader may only put a Bean Bag into a Load Zone if no other Bean Bags are in contact with that Load Zone.
d. A Robot may not contact a Bean Bag in the Load Zone if that Bean Bag is being contacted by a human.
e. Once a Bean Bag is placed into a Load Zone and released, it may no longer be contacted by a Loader unless the Head Referee determines it was misloaded and must be retrieved as described in clause F.
f. If a Bean Bag is Loaded improperly (e.g., while another Bean Bag is in contact with the Load Zone), it must be retrieved by the Loader and reintroduced if the Head Referee instructs the Loader to do so.
g. A Loaded Bean Bag must be placed in a stationary position, and must remain in contact with the Floor after it is released by the Loader until it is contacted by a Robot.
h. Bean Bags that begin the Match outside the Field cannot break the plane of the Field Perimeter until the Match begins. Note: Although it is not required, Robots are highly recommended to remain some distance away from the
Bean Bag until the Loader’s hand has clearly been removed. This will make clauses D & G abundantly clear to Head Referees.
Violation Notes:
1. Teams are responsible for their own actions. Violations that involve a Loader and Robot from opposite Teams will be given to both Teams.
2. It is expected that most Violations of this rule will be accidental. In accidental cases that end up being Score Affecting (e.g., an illegally-Loaded Scoring Object is scored on a Goal), the first occurrence during a Qualification Match may be treated as a Minor Violation and a “final notice” that any future Violation will result in Disqualification for the Match.
3. Any Score Affecting Violation during a Finals Match (accidental and intentional) must be treated as a Major Violation.
4. Repeated, intentional, or egregious Violations may escalate to a Major Violation at the Head Referee’s discretion. One example of an egregious Violation would be placing a Scoring Object directly onto a Robot without ever contacting the Load Zone
3184: Bean Bag laied on Field Perimeter when Loading : VEX Events
The Load Zone is bordered by the inside edge of the Field Perimeter on two of the four sides. The pictured Bean Bag extends beyond the inside edge over the top of the Field Perimeter, which means this Bean Bag is not entirely within the Load Zone.
3198: Legality of Bean Bag Placement in the Loading Zone : VEX Events
this example meets all <SG7> criteria for legal Loading of a Bean Bag.
3273: Bean Bag resting partly on the Floor and partly on top of the Load Zone's IQ beam : VEX Events
The pictured Bean Bag would meet all <SG7> criteria to be considered properly Loaded.
3273: Bean Bag resting partly on the Floor and partly on top of the Load Zone's IQ beam : VEX Events
Per <SG7.f>, if the Head Referee determines that a Bean Bag was Loaded improperly, the Head Referee should instruct the Loader to retrieve the Bean Bag and reintroduce it to the field in accordance with all <SG7> criteria.
<SG4> does not apply here; an improperly Loaded Bean Bag should not be removed from play for the duration of the Match as a result of an <SG7> Violation, regardless of intent.
If a Team appears to be intentionally/strategically violating <SG7> for some reason, that would fall under <SG7> Violation note 4, which states that repeated, intentional, or egregious Violations may escalate to a Major Violation at the Head Referee’s discretion.
